South Leicester Police – Scam Texts

Dear South Leicester Resident,

I hope this email finds you well.

Whilst completing consultations over recent weeks, I have had a large number of residents mention scams and/or spam texts that they have been receiving as a real problem. I wanted to take a few moments of your time to inform you of some positive action you can take in regards to these kind of messages.

You can quickly and easily report spam texts to your network operator. Simply forward the text to ‘7726’. You may get an automated response thanking you for the report and giving you further instructions if needed, like forwarding on the number the spam text message was sent from. You won’t be charged for forwarding spam texts to ‘7726’.

By forwarding these kind of texts, this can enable your phone provider to investigate the origin of the text. They can take action, if found to be malicious. Forwarding methods will vary depending on the mobile phone you use:

iPhone:
Touch and hold the message
Select More.
Select the message you want to forward, then select Arrow in the bottom right corner
Enter 7726
Select Send

Android and Windows:
Press the message (being careful not to activate a link)
Choose Forward (from the menu)
Forward to 7726

BlackBerry:
Open the message
Using the Menu key select Forward
Forward to 7726
