Police Newsletter and Fraud (Leicestershire Police)

Hello,

Please see attached your monthly Newsletter for a summary of events, and your beat teams priorities based on feedback from Neighbourhood Link.

Please be mindful of Fraud and financial exploitation. With more people of all age groups using the Internet and shopping online, please take a look at the below for support and guidance to help you steer clear of scams.

Types of Fraud include:

Romance fraud where you may be requested to transfer money with the belief you are in a long-term relationship.

Financial exploitation/abuse of power. Are you aware of who is taking money from your account, how much, why and when? Do you have a power of attorney?

Telephone scams. Scammers will be very believable and may state they are from a reputable company or even the Police. They will gain your trust and eventually either ask for your bank details or try to gain remote access to your computer. They will use pressure tactics to push you into making decisions. Please just hang up. You can ask your phone provider about call blockers or you can buy one like Truecall. You can visit the Truecall website here https://www.truecall.co.uk/  Get a £10 discount with code L19 if you want one by calling 08000336339 These blockers are endorsed by Police forces nationwide.

You can also visit sites like ActionFraud for some great advice and to see what news there is around recent scams www.actionfraud.police.uk
