Man and teenager arrested for murder of Usman Patel

A 17-year-old male and a 24-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the murder of 32-year-old Usman Patel at the weekend.

He was stabbed in Green Lane Road at about 2.20am on Sunday morning and, despite the efforts of paramedics to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Overnight police have arrested three men and a woman from residential addresses in North Evington and they all remain in police custody.

A 24-year-old man and 17-year-old male have both been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and a 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Leicestershire Police said their enquiries are continuing in what is “a fast moving and complex investigation” and detectives said they are “keeping an open mind as to the motive for the murder”.

Police are still hoping to hear from more people with information about what happened on Sunday morning.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Yarwood from the East Midlands Operations Unit said: “I want to appeal to anyone who has information about this murder.

“Our communities play a very important role in helping police and I urge anyone who can help us to come forward. It is important to remember that a family have lost a loved one.

“We are determined to hunt down and prosecute the person or persons responsible for this murder and bring them to justice.

“We will not tolerate the carrying and use of knives on the streets of Leicester.

“The devastation this can cause is significant and I want to reassure the local community that we do not underestimate this.”
