Driver assaulted after helping man lying in lane near Bradgate Park

A man found lying in a lane near Bradgate Park ended up assaulting a driver and damaging other people’s cars after they stopped to try to help him.

Officers from Leicestershire Police received a report of a man lying in the middle of the crossroads at Joe Moores Lane and Swithland Road, just to the north of the country park at about 5am on Wednesday, July 7.

The man assaulted a male driver and damaged vehicles when others had also stopped to try to assist him, the police said.

Today the force put out an appeal for any further witnesses to the alleged offences – particularly a woman who stopped but has not yet spoken to the police.

Detective Constable Julia Newton, who is investigating the alleged assault and acts of criminal damage, said: “We are trying to identify a female driver who stopped to assist the man.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or may have captured it on dash cam.”

A 26-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested in connection with this incident and was released under investigation.
