Catalytic Converter Burglary Blackmail and Nitrous Oxide

Hello. Hope you are enjoying the thunder, sun, cold, rain and hot weather 🙂

Over the last few weeks we have seen an increase in crimes such as vehicle crime. Please encourage partners, family and other Burbage residents to sign up. Awareness around crime will hopefully reduce victims and opportunities for criminals. https://www.neighbourhoodlink.co.uk/

Victoria Road Catalytic converter theft. Incident occurred around 23:50 – 00:15 on 2nd into the 3rd of July. If you have any footage of a vehicle entering/leaving Victoria Road around this time, please get in touch (Coventry Road or Salem Road area). Crime number 21*371978

Lychgate Lane residential Burglary. Incident occurred sometime between 17:00 and 20:00 on 2nd July. We are currently investigating the incident in which the property was broken into via the conservatory doors.

Items of jewellery were taken. If you have any information that has not yet been passed onto us, please get in touch. Remember to remove jewellery/cash and try to ensure your property looks occupied when you are not in. Remember we have lots of quick fixes such as light timers etc., we will be planning some beat surgeries over the coming weeks to enable us to reach more residents. Crime number 21*369720

Stop searches on vehicles are being completed in the area including locations such as Boyslade Road. Patrols are targeted based on crime and resident concerns/possible criminal activity.

Blackmail/sextortion. With more people going online and posting information about themselves, their life, buying online and having lots of accounts for various platforms, this leaves opportunity for criminals to use methods such as blackmail, sextortion and hacking to obtain money and private information from you. If you are a victim of this, PLEASE phone the Police immediately for advice and to report. Please also see ActionFraud for more in-depth information. https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/a-z-of-fraud

If you find Nitrous Oxide canisters dumped, please let us know the location and report via https://www.gov.uk/report-syringes to ensure they are cleaned up. We will target our patrols but registration plate details are ideal so we can act on this behaviour as we have previously done.

Scam sent in by resident to raise awareness (phone call no internet)

“I’ve just had a call from 07**87**51* on my home landline with a recorded message along the lines “… in order to protect your privacy and security your internet will be turned off in the next 24 hours. Key 1 to discuss this”.
I’ve not heard anything like this before. Clearly it’s a scam and I didn’t key 1, but others may not recognise it as such – others may have pressed 1 and possibly ended up being scammed.”

As scary as it may be for some not to have Internet for a while, please put the phone down and directly call your supplier if you have any concerns.

Thank you and take care.
