Stop searches completed on Brookside following a vehicle being stopped just after midnight on the 7th of May. The driver as arrested and several passengers are being dealt with over the coming weeks. Good work by officers patrolling the area overnight.
A report of vehicle windows/mirrors being covered in food on Salem Road on the evening of Saturday 7th of May. The incident appears to have occurred late evening until 01:30 on Sunday morning, according to the information we have. These types of acts cause inconvenience to local residents and potential criminal damage. Report of suspicious activity following a vehicle alarm going off around 02:30 on the morning of the 7th May on Forresters Road. No one was seen in the area and no damage reported.
Shopping trolley dumped into the Brook in the Sketchley Brook area. The person involved has been visited, spoken to and has returned the trolley to its home. Fly tipping/littering can be reported to https://www.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk/flytipping as they can issue fixed penalty notices. Keeping our area clean and tidy can help keep Burbage an area that is nice to live in. Little things can make a big difference.
The fine for the offence of depositing litter is: £150 (reduction for early payment if paid within 10 days: £100) (S88(1) Environmental Protection Act 1990).
Under the S33 (1)(a) Environmental Protection Act 1990, the Clean Neighbourhood Team can issue fines, called Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN), to people convicted of fly-tipping. The FPN fine is £400. This is discounted for early payment (within 10 days) to £200. On summary of conviction, the offence attracts an unlimited maximum fine.

Report of 3 young lads trying to set a fire to bits of rubbish in a wooded area behind Brookside on the 7th May between 13:30 – 14:30. Search completed but the youths had left. This can be a very dangerous thing to do, especially with the drier, hotter weather coming. The boys were aged around 10-12 years. If you have any information, please get in touch just so we can have a chat (bit of education) with them and ensure the parents are aware.
Hinckley Neighbourhood Team officers would like to make people visiting Hinckley aware of a recent incident.
A scam device was located on a ATM at a bank in Hinckley Town Centre on the evening of the 8th of May 2022.
The device was designed to make the user of the ATM believe that their money has not been dispensed. Fortunately, the person using the ATM has noticed the device and called the Police
The scam device was approximately 8 to 10 inches long, grey in colour matching the colour of the ATM and was fitted close to where the money is usually dispensed from.
If you believe that the ATM you are using has been tampered with and the bank is open please make the bank aware immediately. If the bank is not open please contact the Police on 101.
Here are some handy tips to help avoid ATM fraud
Always carefully cover your PIN from hidden cameras or prying eyes whenever you use your card
Do not keep a written record of your PIN
Never tell anyone else your PIN or allow anyone to use your card
Don’t choose a PIN that someone could easily guess, like your date of birth
Store the 24 hour emergency contact number for all of your cards in your mobile phone or anywhere that’s easy to access
If your card is not returned to you by an ATM after use or the money not issued to you, call your card issuer immediately. If possible whilst at, or near, the machine
If you happen to notice anything unusual or suspicious about an ATM, do not use it and report it to the bank or cash machine operator
Check your statements regularly. if you spot anything suspicious, report it to your bank straight away
When using an ATM, make sure that look out for people close by who may be trying to distract you in order to steal your card or pin

You may also see scams come through via Email and Text message appearing to be from well-known companies such as Amazon. Remember to follow some basic advice and think before you click.
Never feel pressured to give information (such as your credit card number or account password) over the phone, especially if the call was unexpected. Scammers may try to use calls, texts, and emails to impersonate customer service. If you’re ever unsure, it’s safest to end the call/chat and reach out directly to customer support. (find the official number, not from the message)
Be wary of false urgency. Scammers may try to create a sense of urgency to persuade you to do what they’re asking. Be wary any time someone tries to convince you that you must act now.
Remember that many scam sites will look identical to the legitimate site and the differences will not be noticeable to most people, so best to just go to the site itself rather than clicking on links or offers built into the message.
