Service changes due to second lockdown

Amongst the many council services and facilities that will continue through the lockdown are:

• Bin collections – refuse, recycling and garden waste, recycling sites and commercial waste, bulky and special collections plus street cleaning and servicing litter bins will continue. 
• Markets on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays (offering goods limited by law)
• Station Road public toilets will remain open
• Car parks
• Allotments
• Playgrounds and skate parks
• Parks and open spaces 
• Emergency housing repairs
• Resident Support Scheme
• Business advice and guidance
• Choice Based Lettings and allocation of properties
• Homelessness advice

Leicestershire County Council who operate the recycling and household waste sites (tips) in this area have indicated that tips will remain open using the appointment system to book an appointment (leicestershire.gov.uk). 

The council services and facilities listed below will be closed until restrictions are eased:

• Hinckley Leisure Centre is currently closed. All memberships are frozen. For more information on Hinckley Leisure Centre (placesleisure.org) 
• Reception at Hinckley Hub will be closed to the public (except for emergencies). Please call 01455 238141 or contact customer services
• Outdoor gyms, ball courts and pitches, tennis courts, bowling greens and pitch and putt are closed
• Hinckley Cemetery is open for funerals or to allow a person to pay respects to a member of their household, a family member or a friend only at this time
• Non-essential home visits by council staff will be postponed until after the restrictions are lifted

Council Leader Stuart Bray said:

It’s a bitter blow to all of us to see these restrictions return, especially at this time of year when we all want to spend time with family and friends.  But our amazing borough did us proud last time when residents and volunteers came together and rallied around to support others so we can do this again.

Throughout this difficult time we will continue to do everything within our power to support residents and local businesses.

If you do need support then please contact our Coronavirus Resident Support Scheme which continues to be available for people who may need some help as they have no support networks. We are working with a range of local agencies, charitable organisations and local volunteers to do this. 

The service prioritises people who have no one else to help and who are the most vulnerable, for example those over the age of 60, those with an underlying health condition, individuals who are on their own and feeling isolated and families that are struggling to cope.
