Free parking on Saturdays this Christmas

Published Tuesday, 24 November 2020

To coincide with lockdown restrictions easing, the Borough Council is reintroducing free parking in five popular town centre car parks on Saturdays in the run up to Christmas.

Shoppers will be able to park for free in St Mary’s, Church Walk, Castle, Lower Bond Street and Trinity Lane East car parks in the three Saturdays before Christmas. The Borough Council has agreed to repeat the popular offer again this year in order to thank shoppers for their loyalty during what has been a very challenging year and to increase trade for shops and businesses.

The free parking offer applies from 9am on Saturday 5, 12 and 19 December. Shoppers are reminded that parking is also free after 3pm every day in Trinity Lane East, Castle and Lower Bond Street car parks as well in all council run car parks on Sundays throughout the year.

Additionally, shoppers will also be able to park for free in North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) car park in the three Saturdays before Christmas. The car park, which is directly behind the Atkins Building, can be accessed from Druid Street.

Council Leader Stuart Bray said:

It has never been more important for us to support our local businesses. This year, more than ever, we’re urging everyone to stay safe and shop local.

With that in mind we’re not only offering free parking on our five most popular car parks on Saturdays and all council car parks on Sundays but also after 3pm every day in three car parks to help to people to shop at quieter times through the week.

For businesses emerging from the second national lockdown, shopping local for food and gifts will be a very welcome boost, so please love local and shop local this Christmas.
